Hi Gang, We have learned a few things on our adventure so far. It is still very, very cold at night in
southern New Mexico in January. Freezing cold.!! ... lol. Also learned that Deming NM is in the "High Desert" ... cold.
Now southern Arizona near Why AZ was better in February, but still had some chilly nights. The days were excellent.
We learned we need quiet power. We could start up the generator for power, but the noise and use of gas was annoying.
So we went ahead and had a solar system installed for Free, and Quiet power. I also took some panels off to check the insulation.
We found a few places that needed it where there was none, and will add more to the walls and roof. That will make a big
difference on the cold nights and help keep it cooler in the heat. Will also hold the heat longer at night with our little heater.
We found that it was great having the porta potty for the 3am run....lol. We now have a tankless water heater for showers and dishes.
Have not used it yet, but it will be a great addition. We also picked up a "Dorm" fridge to use now that we have power. That will save
on all the ice for the cooler. Also looking at the 12 volt fridge/freezers but a little too pricey for us right now. Had an electric
cable hatch installed so we can run the power out and have the Rock & Roll outside .... lol. We had the axle flipped so the trailer
rides a little higher now. Great for the dirt roads and low dips. Added a LED strip for light inside the trailer. We are hold up in
Las Vegas, staying with family while getting some of this work done on the trailer. We will stay in the area so we can head for the
Overland Expo next month near Flagstaff AZ.
We have our first date set up to attend the Overland Expo.!! All signed up and tickets are confirmed. It will be May 17th - 20th 2012.
The location is the Mormon Lake Lodge area, which is about 30 minutes SE of Flagstaff, Arizona, and less than an hour from a Corner in Winslow, Arizona. !!
They have driving instructors for how to handle back roads, and classes for many things, like how to use a winch, foods for camping, proper equipment to have, map and GPS reading, and many more.
There will be over 100 exhibitors with all their cool outdoor stuff for us to check out and buy.
We are not exactly "Overland Adventure" travelers. Some of the VIP instructors have traveled around the world. We on the other hand, will be traveling "Overland" and it is our "Great Adventure" ... lol.
There will be some excellent information and training there, that will enhance our RV, Camping, and Safety in our travels.
When you have time visit Overland Expo for more info.
Ride the Rails,
